Ethics and Compliance Officer - Job Description


Job Title:Ethics and Compliance Officer


Location: Mumbai



Purpose of the Job:


  • Ensure that the company conducts its business in compliance with all applicable laws and professional standards in line with the company’s policies and the AB&AC framework.
  • Deal with all Ethics & Compliance (E&C) related queries / complaints / suggestions and manage risks in relation thereto, with a focus on Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption (AB&AC).
  • To ensure effective implementation of AB&AC framework in place and continue to work on improving the same from time-to-time.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with all -In-Licensing Partners with reference to implementation and adherence to their compliance guidelines by respective marketing teams.
  • Create awareness and educate employees on AB&AC risks and institute practices that will ensure the highest possible level of compliance.



Key Responsibilities:


  • Implement and ensure proper adherence of Company’s Business Ethics & Compliance (BE&C) Policy and framework.
  • Ensure compliance and adherence of all people concerned with Company’s code of conduct, policies, systems and procedures in relation to gifts, entertainment, travel, hospitality, donations, sponsorships and specific guidance on health care professionals, dealing with government officials, government tenders etc.
  • Identify and analyze gaps and risks with each and every business team, and accordingly assist the business to address them based on a thorough understanding of the business, the code of conduct, policies and E&C requirements.
  • Develop training modules, assess need for training and deliver training to employees and third parties and maintain records in relation thereto.
  • Actively participate and work cross functionally with Distribution, Sales, Marketing, Quality, Medical and other business teams.
  • Work with the Legal team and ensure incorporation of relevant BE&C clauses in all third party contracts.
  • Coordinate and assist the relevant finance team with compliance monitoring systems & activities and internal controls.
  • Assist the Legal team in developing training modules, assessing need for training and delivering training to employees and third parties and maintain records in relation thereto.
  • Assist business functions/ teams in investigations & assessing corrective/ disciplinary actions when appropriate.
  • Generate relevant compliance reports periodically for senior management’s review.
  • Coordinate Third Party / Partner Compliance Audits and ensure completion of the same successfully.


Competency: (education, experience and skills)


  • 6 to 8 years of experience in the Compliance area.
  • Substantial Knowledge and understanding of legal, ethics and compliance requirements relating to the Pharmaceutical Industry and Anti-Corruption Laws including UCPMP, MCI Code, FCPA and UK Bribery Act.
  • Work Experience in Ethics & Compliance Function and/ or in related functional areas of a multi-national company (i.e. legal, audit, quality, etc.)
  • Ethical, principled, fair, proactive and diligent.
  • Sound judgment and excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Process orientated with ability to analyze understand, communicate & manage regulations & complexity.
  • Good understanding of business with high levels of curiosity & learning agility.
  • High level of professional maturity and sensitivity to confidentiality.
